I do not list anything here that I would not use myself. Every item has been tested on the road in my van or while traveling abroad in the winter. If it fails me it is gone. If it makes the list it means it has survived real world use and has earned a permanent place in my gear.
The first question is always does it work. The second is will it last. I do not care if it looks good if it cannot handle rain, dust, heat, or getting tossed into an overhead bin. Price matters but reliability matters more.
These are the things that make life in a van easier and more comfortable.
I keep my travel kit light but strong.
Items that I use daily no matter where I am.
Each item links to a trusted seller. In some cases I earn a commission if you buy through my link. It does not change your price but it helps me keep this site running.
Browse the gear, read the reviews, and pick what works for your travels. If you want updates on new items I add to the list, sign up for my email list.
I’m Timothy. I live in my van during the U.S. travel season, and when winter hits, I disappear to somewhere cheap and sunny. Here you’ll find the unfiltered truth about van life, budget travel abroad, and the gear that actually works.
